Since 2007 Mountain View Alliance Church has sent five short term mission teams
to work along side Pastor Tomas Bencomo and the people from Tarahumara ministies
and "Encuentro Con Dios Alliance Church of Ciudad Juarez Mexico.
The trips have
been facilitated through ministry of Hungry for Life International
http://www.hungryforlife.org/ who deal with the travel and project logistics,
with Tarahumara ministries.
Over the past five years we have been active with the
local people in building a multi-functional church building in the Pima village of Babicora
located in a very remote area of the Copper canyon. The multi functional part of the
church is that it will be used for food aid distribution, medical care and education.
We have also supported the purchase of a small house in Babicora to house a resident
pastor, and other visiting workers. The house needed a substantial amount of work,
which is progressing well.
This summer from August 13th. to 27th. another team of people will be travelling to
Babicora to continue the work. This years team is made up of five people from
Mountain View Alliance church in Kitimat and two people formerly from our church
but now involved in Hinton Alliance church in Hinton Alberta.
While there they will be
working on wiring the church building to have lighting with power to be provided by a
generator, with future plans for a solar power system. In addition the team will be
working on improvements to the pastors house and possibly painting at the church
building.
After the work is complete in Babicora five of the team members will return
to Canada. But two of the women on the team have made the major commitment
to stay on for another six weeks working with Tarahumara ministries helping at the
orphanage / boarding school in another very remote area of the Copper canyon.
Another project supported by our church is the supply of a low power radio system
to provide local communications for the orphanage / boarding school and surrounding
area.
